Antique Doulton Burslem Teapot Creamer Sugar Demitasse Cups 9 pcs 1891 GW-1217
This is a rare, antique Doulton Burslem Aesthetic Movement tea set that is absolutely stunning!  The Aesthetic Movement emphasized beauty, artistic craftsmanship and decorative elegance over just functional design.  Doulton's pieces from this time era often featured intricate hand painted designs, floral motifs, enamels, gold and Japanese art influence.  This set takes on all of these qualities,

The porcelain set is very fine porcelain that when you hold up a cup towards the light you can see through the porcelain.  There is heavy gilt on the handles and on the rims of each piece.  There is fade on the handles since the designers knew the gold would eventually wear in those areas.  Each piece is hand painted, and the pieces are decorated with raised enamel with a Satsuma style.  These pieces are marked as made in England and my estimate is in 1891.  Also, all the pieces are marked with the backstamp along with several other codes except for two cups.  One code is CW3562 which I believe may be the pattern number.  Under that code is GW.1217 which I believe could be the artist's initial.  And under that is a H which I am not sure what that represents.

The teapot stands 7" and is 9" from spout to handle.  The sugar bowl is 3.5" tall and is 3.5" wide with the creamer 2.75" tall and 4" wide with handle.  The cups stand 2.5" and 3" including the handles.  All the pieces are in great condition except there is a nick on the inside of the teapot spout but not noticeable on the outside of the spout.  There is a small chip on one cup and even a smaller chip on the inside of the creamer.

These pieces are prized for their artistic quality and highly sought after today.  This is a very special set and one to treasure!  Thanks for looking at this tea set and be sure to check out my shop, not2shabbyshop, for more fabulous finds!
